Maybe ugly people could become more attractive to the culture if they were allowed to be ugly when honored…

This community is very odd. The only posts I see getting traction on here are awful things like this. This post isn’t for car enthusiasts, this is for Facebook.

Lemmy is more a “Fuck Cars” kind of place in my experience, if you want to fight the biking horde you’re going to have to build the army yourself

I don’t want to fight the biking horde, I just want to be a gearhead.

I agree with a lot of what the Fuck Cars community has to say (the name sucks though). Cars are often not the best solution. Good public transit means only the people who want to drive are on the road, which means less morons. Oh no - they might shut down some city streets, the worst place to drive anyways.

Cars are loud, it’s a fact. As a gearhead, I don’t like generic road noise. Cool engines with tasteful exhausts? Yeah. A corolla driving past making nothing but tire noise? Nah. I’ll take a quiet downtown please.

Being a public transit/bicycling enthusiast and a car enthusiast is very possible. Public transit and good bike infrastructure make driving better, and no one should be forced to drive if they don’t want to, just like you aren’t being forced to take public transit or bike.

I can’t agree. For one cars as basically all things carry an artistic value and besides that one of applied arts. They can in fact look pretty nice. Not agreeing with the things cars stand for or the damage they cause is one thing (and one that I actually support) but saying all cars are ugly seems a bit of an exaggeration.

he is an autistic* troll. he isn’t here to engage. he just comes in where he isn’t wanted, shits on everything and plugs his ears going ‘lalalala’.

        * self-proclaimed. I don’t know if it is true, but he seems to have told the truth.

I’d argue that at least the vast majority of cars are fugly beyond reason. Especially when compared to their surrounding. Maybe once they design a car that doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb next to a regular building.

And also solve the inherent ugliness of the filth, ludicrous cost and ever present hint of extremely violent death. Such inelegance can’t be beautiful in my eyes. Even the decadent quality is spoiled by the lack of any class.

I have a sense of beauty informed by my sense of morality. I can’t look at something I know is harmful and feel good about its existence. When I look at a car, I see the carbon dioxide and the extinct species it will cause. I see the particulate emission and the children it will give asthma. I see the rage and laziness of the driver, and the potential for a bloody crash with a dead pedestrian. It’s ugly.
