The local governments of Tucson and Charleston are seeking public comment on proposed public transit projects. Charleston is hosting a series of workshops that began yesterday. Beginning Aug. 8, Tucson will begin holding over a dozen in-person and virtual town halls to get input on public transit needs.

Complaining and memes are fun and all, but the slow, boring process of civic engagement is where change actually happens. Fortunately for us, these meetings have notoriously low attendance, so it wouldn’t be too difficult for even a few Fuck Cars folks to have some impact. Conservatives have successfully used this strategy to radicalize school boards -we can do the same (but for the good) with local public transit.
