Except I wouldn’t describe FOMO is “what are they saying about me over there?“ FOMO is more the fear of missing out on a shared experience. but yeah, herd mentality and FOMO, that sounds about right. 
It’s a mix between heard mentally (well, all my friends are on it) and FOMO (what are they saying about me over there?)
