I tried uploading a pic w/ the “upload image” but it didn’t really work, post showed as text-only, so I resorted back to imgur. But is there an alternative we should be using?

You can use Pixelfed … you can then follow yourself from elsewhere in the Fediverse. Or just use it to make links and post those.
