While trying to log out or remove my account today I used the delete current account option. I had no idea this meant it was deleting my entire lemmy account! I was able to get it restored by a kind mod but all of my posts and comments are permanently gone.
Can we get a better explanation for this button in the app to prevent others from making the same mistake?
I’m really sorry that happened to you! We’re refining that UX to make that much harder to accidentally do in the future.
No problems. It’s was entirely my fault. Hopefully it can prevent someone else from doing the same thing.
?? You want ‘delete current account’ to better state that you’re about to delete your current account?
I have never known a third-party reddit app that had an option to delete your actual account.
The App Store requirements are extremely clear that if you have an option to create an account in-app, you need to also offer the option to delete it. According to our app reviewer (and, I reluctantly admit, the text of the requirements), even just linking to a sign-up site like join-lemmy is sufficient to require in-app deletion.
Ah, that makes a lot more sense. I don’t think reddit ever allowed third-party apps to create apps, so they must have made sure not to direct users to sign up on reddit, lest they fall afoul of Apple’s rules.
Edit: hilarious typo, I meant accounts but I guess they don’t let them make apps anymore either…
I’m with @[email protected] on this one. You can’t expect an essay accompanying the delete action. There is nothing unclear about delete.
It doesn’t need to be an essay. Delete actions often have second warnings. An ‘Are you Sure? This will permanently delete your account from xyz.com.” with a Yes/No might be all that’s needed.
Yes! That’s all I was asking for
The problem was that to remove the account requires you to know to swipe on the account. I just thought there should be a bit more warning considering it was talking about deleting it from the app and not deleting your entire account from the website
I completely understand this. To remove an account in Outlook’s app it says “delete account”. It should 100% have a better explanation
The button doesn’t make it clear whether it means to delete the account solely within the app or on the parent server.
I almost did the exact same thing. In the app account switcher is not where I’d put the ability to nuke my Lemmy account.
