I am looking to purchase a product :(. I only have about four thousand dollars.

Could you please help me figure out what kind of AR glasses I should buy?

Honestly no, you should buy the magic Dell Eye-Bullet instead. Way better pixel-to-death ratio IMHO.

I dislike apple for a lot of reasons, but the Vision Pro is bringing some pretty advanced new tech to the table.

This isn’t Apple’s typical MO where they stick meh hardware into a pretty looking case and jack up the prices.

This sort of tech has to start somewhere, and that’s always at a high price point.

i think iphones. theyre the same thing every year, and overpriced

the thing is, many androids are like this too. I think one of the biggest issues is that “android” gets lumped into one thing, so people say stuff like “androids are always using new tech”, but you look at it company by company, and you get the same thing as apple. every Samsung from the s20 to the s24 is pretty much the same. the pixel 6 and pixel 8 are near the same thing

What’s new and advanced about this? Hasn’t it all already existed in some form? It’s just been Apple-ified, no? It’s just a VR headset, an actual AR headset is something like HoloLens.

Beyond the tech, who is even the target audience for this? I only see it as a gimmick, one for just Apple geeks to buy. One of the reasons 3DTV’s failed is because nobody wanted to wear the glasses, so why would anyone want to strap this to their face just to do something they already do or could do on their TV/computer/phone?

You can already pretty much do everything this can with an existing VR headset in one way or another, for a lot cheaper.
      It’s a bizzare product.

Have you looked at the specs?

I am also perplexed by the product but there are no affordable headsets offering their resolution/framerate combo. And with OLED screens? Nah, not even close.

Apples laptops and phones are great in terms of hardware. Moreover software and ecosystem is fine tuned to that hardware (and vice verse). I understand if you do not like closeness of the system, but let’s not pretend that hardware is “meh”. It is very competitive in the same price bracket. I actually did an exercise few years ago - tried to find one to one spec windows vs MacBook Pro (this is where Marvin is, right)? Tough luck, windows machines were more expensive!

While I despise apple for a lot of reasons, I have to somewhat defend them here. MacOS is a lot more efficient with its tailor made hardware and 8GB of RAM in a MacBook is closer to 16GB in a normal laptop. Their hardware prices are around the industry standard if you look at the windows/android equivalent of their advertised specs.

Of course the flagship products are completely overpriced, but that’s the case for pretty much all manufacturers and not really what should be looked at for comparisons.

The Mac mini/studio are far from “meh” and are actually more competitively priced than Apple usually sets. I’d argue the mini in particular is notable for the firepower it brings at its price points.
