Interoperability is great and all but they’re two different types of sites and the majority of the posts aren’t directed at the community, they’re just mentioning them. They rarely generate discussion and the hashtags/links make for garbage post titles on here
It’s a very cool feature when used correctly but I do agree it needs work to avoid the accidental mentions. It’s all too easy to tag the wrong group even if you do know there’s a difference, and most people don’t.
That said it’s not the end of the world, and it’s fun blowing people’s minds by telling them hello from Lemmy, so there’s a silver lining 😄
Agree, it’s fun most of the times!
You still can’t actually find hashtags embedded in here via Mastodon though right? Just curious.
I do agree the implementation isn’t quite the best when it comes to cross posting or following stuff between the different platforms.
Hashtags are kind of a Mastodon invention on top of ActivityPub. Usually, they show up as search links back the the website where they originated. For hashtags from other servers to work on Mastodon, the submitting server needs to set some special fields, and I don’t think Lemmy or Kbin do any of that.
