What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I’m not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

@ajsadauskas @fuck_cars Hospital, Arena, University are the only ones I think need to be big enough to not be in a 15m walk. But the mini versions of Arena and Hospital should be. Travelling further for medical care that needs an MRI machine etc is fine, but an x-ray for a simple broken arm should be a 15m walk away.

University can be in a 15m walk, but that needs highrise density, which isn’t ideal for the entirety of a city.

Yeah I love universities but I don’t want to live close to one. Having lived in multiple university cities (even worse, each was obsessed with that school’s athletic teams for one sport), I think the university district is important and I don’t want to live in it. I should be able to get there without too much difficulty but yeah.

American universities are weird. My hometown has a large university and for the most part once you walk two minutes in any direction it just looks like a regular neighborhood. It helps to not have sports as part of the university.

That’s a good point: I didn’t think about smaller versions of an arena.

My overall area is lucky to have teams in all the major leagues, as well as many colleges and universities with excellent teams. I sometimes goto games, but would not want to live anywhere near those arenas (again).

However I do live an easy walk to sports fields, including where my high school football, baseball, and soccer teams play. These have also been used for fireworks shows and community events. By this definition, I have a very short walk and am happy to
