I’ve encountered not being able to register using an email account that isn’t hosted by one of the major commercial providers. I had to create an @outlook account to use for this nonsense. If it’s something I don’t really need to do, I often just nope on out of their bullshit instead. Similarly, yesterday I encountered a site that wouldn’t let me submit their contact form if I didn’t turn off my adblocker. Sucks for them, I was going to place a decent order and just had a question.
What’s terrible about their hosting?

Email is commonly compromised. It’s an easy target for bad actors executing a takeover.
As someone who has had to walk the “I don’t do computers” public through basic things over the phone, I can confirm that yes, a lot of people are way too lazy to learn anything new. They will instead call the support folks and blast some poor person just trying to deal with their day. Call center volume goes up anytime any barrier is added. Agreed though, SMS OTP is constantly becoming less effective. Email OTP is somewhat pointless.

I think you win. Glad you and doggo are okay.
They look cool, but they’re annoying when they get stuck. I had a couple cars with them through the years. Sadly, never a first gen Miata. I like them too.
