But… you have choice. Nobody needs to go to taylor Swifts concerts. Nobody needs to see the next Marvel movie. It’s a business.
As long as people only spend money on things that are worth more to them than said money, everyone is fine. If people can’t control their purchases, it isn’t the industry’s fault.
I’m fortunate to not enjoy popular culture in the first place.
And a lifestyle that doesn’t require cars seems incomprehensible to them.
suburbs take up less place than i expected
The thing is, America is culturally really influenctial. Here in Germany we have a wide variety of jobs that typically pay minimum wage. Some are service related, others aren’t. It’s roughly 20% of the workforce.
But we listen to american podcasts, watch your movies, your series and so on.
So waiters tend to get minimum wage + tax free tips, while cashiers just get minimum wage. Granted, tips are more like 10% here. I hate tips being an expectation.
To all the people here ranting about monetary debt: its not an issue. Money isn’t designed to hold value in the long term. It’s a feature, not a bug.
It’s just really unfortunate for those who play the game as if money were an asset. It’s meant for transactions, not for storage.
Yes, but most people using the term don’t know their defitition, so knowing the correct definition is of limited usefulness.
Ponzi is for Investments that offer high returns, by marking the principal as gains. Pyramid schemes sell stuff, through a pyramid of salesmen. Each one earns a percentage of the revenue of his underlings and is encouraged to recruit more underlings.
Capitalism is nothing but allowing freedom and allowing property (in contrast to posession)
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Operating nodes is expensive, offers no reward, and comes with a serious legal risk.
This won’t stop the NSA from operating a few. I assume that a significant portion of Tor nodes is run by intelligence agencies. If they control all nodes used for a connection(i believe three are used), they can probably piece together what connections a user is having.
I’m under the impression that my use will only make it slower for people who really need it.
Environmental protection is collectivist. It’s what is best for everyone. (Including future generations).
But abortion is a good exception.
I like your thinking.
I think unwanted children are the worst. lets put aside that the family won’t be happy. It’s these children that will cause trouble, populate prisons. They’ll be an absolute drag on society. It’s not even they’re fault. Growing up without love is tough
I’m European. Do you think the American teens getting pregnant are actually surprised? That just seems inconceivable (pun not intended) to me.
Nah, it’s a fairly good way to differentiate between collectivist and individualistic ideas.
This sounds so sad
I’m pretty sure i’m gone
Our exchange here is public, a gift to humanity and all aliens that might stumble upon it. If meta can make money from it, so be it. But anyone else can just as well.
There are some American news sites that don’t serve to European users for that reason. Instead, we get a screan that explains that GDPR is too much for them to handle.
It can be circumvented with a VPN, but I haven’t bothered so far
The beauty of Ponzi’s is, that as long as you find a bigger fool, it might even work for you
Does/ did reddit have a limit like this?
