If it happens past your lifetime, it doesn’t matter. So for sure it’ll pass. These sayings are meant to apply to you, not history.

I look back to the serenity prayer, which is really just a bit of Buddhism: “Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

The Buddhist path is “why is there suffering in the world?” Because of attachment. You want things to stay the same. Things change. You want your parents to live forever. You don’t want to be sick. You wish your job didn’t suck. Why can’t I just win the lottery and have my problems go away? You want to cling to the good times and not have the bad. You can let go of the bad, and the resultant suffering because of it will fade. Letting go is incredibly hard, because our biological bodies are hard wired on routines. But if you can overcome that, and accept that whatever happened, happened, you can move forward. You can’t change the past. And whether you like it or not, time and the world moves forward. You can move forward with it, or let something hold you back.

And just to clarify, I’m an atheist, so my understanding of both the Serenity Prayer and Buddhism are seen through the lense of someone that doesn’t believe in an afterlife or religion in general (strict Buddhism is not a religion). I encourage you to find your own conclusions.

  • The problem is you remember eating it as a kid. Drinking lots of Coke/Pepsi/mountain dew, hostess cakes, and all that other over flavored, ultra processed food covered with sugar and salt.

Now, as you’ve grown, your taste buds aren’t used to the barrage and it’s just too much to enjoy the nostalgia. Probably because they’ve steadily increased the additives to make it more appealing to an increasingly desensitized palette.

I feel the same way. I eat much healthier, feel better, and save nostalgia for movies instead of food.

I’m actually surprised this is an unpopular opinion. I guess a lot of people here are early 20s? It’s easier to get back into the processed enjoyment mode then, maybe.

  • This could be a case of them cutting multiple covers at once.

I had the same problem with jeans. I order the exact same style and size, but they don’t all fit the same. When I spoke to a Levi customer service person, they said they have multiple layers of fabric piled on top. Then the cutting blade presses down, and the fabric bends. As the top one is to short on measurements, the bottom most one is to long. So you want one in the middle.

I know paper isn’t fabric, but it could be something similar. It’s speed and efficiency over accuracy.

Wow, can you imagine trying to fix dry eyes by using eye drops, only to have to get them surgically removed to prevent your death? Going blind over eye drops? 4 deaths even…

You see those videos of workers in India doing barefoot work making pots and small metal parts. Turns out that’s everywhere, including your eye drops.

I’m sure the companies responsible won’t have any consequences, but I wish they would. That’s so incredibly reckless and who knows what else we use every day that’s manufactured this carelessly.
