.world pre-emptively blocked them (twice) because they’re nerds they’re hosted in the EU and they thought they’d get in trouble by association for being federated with instances that promotes discussion of something illegal in their physical server’s jurisdiction. They had a lot of traffic. The db0 comm is still alive.

“Tankie” in the traditional sense of someone who uncritically supports the USSR in the handling of 1956’s uprising? Probably not.

While Kruschev’s use of tanks in 1956 was heavy handed, the Hungarian alliance with the Axis in WWII and participation of Operation Barbarossa, lingering fascist sympathisers and nationalists remained in Hungary.

This coupled with the Communist Party of Hungary’s less than equitable redistribution of land/castles/other properties earlier in the 1950’s (favouring giving properties to ranking CPH members instead of distributing it to the proletariat equally). This created resentment for the Party, and an image of the Communists as no better than the Monarchy that came before or the Fascists that came after.

The Hungarian uprising had elements of fascist sympathisers, monarchists, bourgeoisie, etc but also legitimate critics of the handling of the situation. It never should have come to that, and a more educated/self critical Communist Party in Hungary could have prevented things from getting that far. The people should have benefitted a lot more from a better redistribution of wealth.

The above issues coupled with Soviet distrust of Hungarians (since they did invade the Soviet Union in the 40’s) led to a swift and harsh reaction towards the uprising, seeing it as just a reactionary revolt.

Now, am I a tankie in the Reddit redefinition, of anyone that critically supports Cuba, China, Vietnam and their style of government? Yeah, I suppose I am. This is no more radical a position than Malcolm X or the Black Panthers who also supported the late USSR, China and Cuba.

  • 太丢脸了。

Like this is deeply embarrassing. Nancy Pelosi kneeling while wearing Kente Cloth levels of embarrassing. It shows OP doesn’t have any close Chinese friends and also demonstrates a reddit headline level of understanding of China; Hong Kong is not behind the firewall, HKers can (and often do) post this picture.

As a Chinese person, the mental image of OP smugly posting this to “own the tankies” in the same way MAGA dipshits post “Let’s Go Brandon” hoping to own the liberals has given me a near lethal amount of second hand cringe.

Please, for the love of god, never approach a Chinese person with this attitude irl. This is on par with ordering an “Irish Car Bomb” in an Irish pub on St. Patricks day, or saying “grassy-ass” to your Hispanic server instead of “thank you”, or trying to use anime Japanese around Japanese people, or code switching to AAVE around black people.

  • Look, if your personal opinion of the moon is that it’s a hologram, it’s definitely worth less than, say, Buzz Aldrin’s opinion of the moon being made of rock.

I don’t know who told you a personal opinion is worth exactly as much as someone else’s, but they were wrong.

Giving value to bad opinions like “Oh Trump won we gotta storm the capitol” or “Vaccines cause autism” or “Nuclear is worse than coal” and refusing to engage with all evidence of the contrary and just leaving the conversation by saying “Mine are just not common” is an extremely unhealthy way to be a part of society. I live in Australia and the bush fires are getting worse. There’s a noticeable cost of lives and livelihoods. You’re not saving millions of lives from a nuclear meltdown by tearing down nuclear plants. You’re putting millions of lives in danger from climate disasters by tearing down nuclear plants.

I hope you change for the better.

  • If you, the civilian, donates to a legitimate cause, the billion dollar company won’t be able to claim that donation on their tax deductions.

If they donate, it’s a zero sum game. Maybe 5 mins in the spotlight for alturism.

But if you give them the money to donate on your behalf? They don’t spend a cent and are able to get tax deductions for “philanthropy”. It’s the best possible outcome (for the company).
