  • From someone that daily’d a 2006 GTO for a few months - I’d recommend against it.

I fucking adore older cars (preferably 85 to 2010) - almost the perfect blend of tech and mechanical elements without being too overly reliant on tech. Fuck touch screens.

However, dailying something that old will definitely be a little bit more challenging than something newer. Sure, it can be cheap to replace parts on an old Toyota, but then you’ll need to start looking at your time as a resource. Like how often are you going to want to keep working on it as parts inevitably fail due to age?

It’s all up to you, really. If you’re in a good spot to be able to make it work then more power to you - but always look at time as a resource as well and recognize that an older car will definitely be biting into your time. Personally, I wouldn’t go older than 2003 for a daily.

  • Funnily enough, doing a color scheme of something lighter (like white or red or blue) with black wheels does a better job or making the car look sporty than most “ground effects” packages. Looks super nice!

And I’ll die on this hill, but you can have as much fun in a small FWD econo-box as you can with a high-powered RWD sport coupe - take a cruise on a few of the less-used interstates where you can find some windy roads and have some fun!

Slow car fast is just as good as fast car fast. :D

  • Hi Inky! First post on Lemmy and I used to be a perpetual Reddit lurker, especially in r/cars (but hoping to contribute more with the new change of scenery).

I like the themed day ideas but one thing I wanted to take another look at the “what should I do Weds.” I know we’re still pretty small and have a lack of automation tools but having a rolling weekly or monthly thread solely for automotive tech questions would be very beneficial in centralizing all of that related discussion.

Otherwise - excited to join and contribute and show off my crazy-ass stable of cars!

    • 2006 Pontiac GTO (22k miles with a 6spd)
    • 2013 Volkswagen Jetta (beaterrrr)
    • 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 (all original 390+C6, no brakes lmao)
