  • Genuinely when was the last time you watched The Simpsons?

I’m not going to pretend that the current seasons are as good as the “golden age” that top out around season 10 or so, but to say the current seasons aren’t worth watching is incorrect. The Simpsons continues to tell fun stories and funny jokes.

The Simpsons film was also great and I would be happy to see a sequel.

  • This is a terrible take and a great post for unpopularopinion.

No question Jon Stewart is the best, let’s get that out of the way.

When Trevor took over he had to follow Jon, which was going to be a challenge for anyone. Trevor took over in 2015 and for the first 5 years he was good, but it took him time.

However when 2020 hit things changed, globally. But it also caused Trevor to really find his own. Trevor was one of the best late night programs during the pandemic and you could tell while watching that Trevor got a lot more comfortable.

Trevor brought that energy when he returned to the studio and continued to excel. In fact his final year of hosting earned him (and the Daily Show team) a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series. (Yes, partially because John Oliver was moved to a different category, but Trevor is still excellent, even if second to John Oliver.)

I will say when Trevor retired from The Daily Show I was surprised, but not that surprised. I think Trevor chose to leave while he was in top. I think the pandemic really changed his outlook on things and while he knew he was doing great work, he was ready to move on.

I won’t be surprised if Trevor ends up back hosting a late night show, podcast or something similar in the future, but I think he’s a young guy and wants to be a little more reckless/creative before heading back to the format. (That isn’t to say late night shows are only an “old mans” game, it’s just not what Trevor is feeling at the moment.)

  • I’ve never heard that before and find it baffling.

Bulbasaur comes out of the gate with two types.

Charmander becomes Charizard with two types.

The first (or second) non-starter you encounter is Pidgy with two types.

The required Viridian Forest had Weedle with two types and if you only got a Caterpie, that becomes Butterfree who also has two types.

The number of two type Pokemon that you can catch at the start of the game is massive. Probably about half?

  • This is the biggest one for me.

At some point I stopped using Reddit on the web/desktop and just started to use it on my phone/tablet. I tried different apps, but settled with RIF. Every few years I’d try different apps, but always found my way back to RIF.

Reddit did a bunch of stupid things over the years, but I could happily ignore them and continue to use RIF.

When RIF went away I had to find a new app. The official app wasn’t going to work for me. Old Reddit on the phone wasn’t going to work for me.

Luckily there are plenty of Lemmy apps. I’ve settled on Voyager (wefwef) but Boost seems fine too.

Sure, the content has changed a bit, but it’s close enough.

For me a good app is key. Lemmy has good apps. I use Lemmy.

So many apps redesign themselves and assume I’ll get used to it. In actuality they cause me to wonder, “Do I still need you?” and start looking for alternatives.

That isn’t to say that apps can’t ever redesign themselves, but so many redesigns seem to follow the latest trend and don’t demonstrate a clear understanding of their users.

  • I don’t understand the “it’s just a meme” logic. I’ve seen it used a few times to excuse whatever the meme says.

Imagine if the meme was “Stop signs don’t make sense, I’ve got places to be, vroom vroom”

That’s stupid and dangerous advice. This meme isn’t dangerous, but it is stupid.

Obviously if there was a “Sarcasm rabbit” type meme, now it makes sense. I’ve never seen this meme image before, maybe that’s what it’s going for, but for now it’s going to get shit on.

  • Nostalgia is the simple answer. I watched it last night, it wasn’t very good, but it had some funny jokes and throwback moments.

In terms of ratings, 67% is probably a bit high even for the target audience. Outside the target audience it should be much lower.

In terms of content, they stretched the skit to make the first movie and it was fine. For the sequel, they pretty much just reference things and add a little bit.

Basically if you think you’d like to see it, you’ll probably enjoy at least parts of it. If you skip it, you’re not missing anything.

  • This is hugely important. Since Windows is what they use now, I’d start by seeing if any peers are using macOS. See what issues, if any, they have. If you can find someone who uses ChomeOS, ask them too.

Linux will likely have a solution to any sort of compatibility problems, but I imagine folks who have already moved off of Windows will share similar problems.
