This is definitely funny, but don’t let the conspiracy theory guys see it.

There is a visible exit only sign for the right lane half a mile ahead. The cammer is in the correct lane.
The dictation software we have is pretty shitty though.
As someone who used dictation software when said software needed to be trained first and also trained its users how to speak more clearly, it always amazes me when I hear people say things like this.
The problem is human speech is lazy and inaccurate. Half of the time I have to listen to a voice clip there are two or three words in the clip that are barely intelligible. If I don’t catch it by the third pass I stop and just guess by context. It is the same thing the AWESOME dictation software we have today does, but saves me the time and effort and gives the sender a chance to fix their own mumbles.
Of course, I’m one of those people whose voicemail message used to be, “Don’t leave me a message unless your call went straight to voicemail. I will see your missed call and call you back.”
How does it feel to be on the same side as most preachers and weekly church-goers?
Few things drives them more nuts than people who call themselves Christians and don’t even attempt to be followers of Christ. Trying and failing is one thing, and always an embarrassment to the church, but living like the worst dregs of society, while using that name, is worse than an intentional smear campaign.
Biblical wisdom mostly. Certain parts definitely don’t hold up to modern morality, but there is a lot well-thought-out advice buried in it that has helped people in Judeo-Christian areas for thousands of years.
One of the Proverbs in particular comes to mind: “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” Hard to argue against the inherent wisdom in such a statement.
Also, like you, I have an appreciation for old churches and some religious art.
I wouldn’t want to be reincarnated to earth, but reincarnated to a fantasy world with magic might be nice to try out. My biggest hangup with reincarnation is not bringing the wisdom of hard learned lessons with.
“Jesus H Christ” always made me smirk not sure why. Like Christ was his last name or something.
Good to know. Might end up unchecking it myself in the not too distant future.
There is a sequel but it failed to capture the spirit of the first one. I think it used to be free on their website.
Also, when I watched it a few years back, they were working on a TV series but I am not sure if it ever got off the ground.
Maybe this is a silly question but does unchecking the “show bot accounts” box in settings not work on them? I haven’t gotten annoyed enough with them yet to uncheck the box to see if it works.
this place being crazy crazy overwhelmingly progressive (not shade) is going to push people away.
This is a serious concern. As a moderate, I usually get fed-up with how lop-sided it is here pretty quickly.
When I first joined Lemmy, I was optimistic that there would be a good exchange of ideas and open discussions from differing viewpoints. Unfortunately, that only lasted until I found the Agora. At which point I realized I had just joined Survivor Lemmy, and was always wondering which instance was going to get voted off the island this week. I pretty much dropped my sh.itjust.works account after that.
It is amazing how toxic the environment can be towards people with differing political views. I can’t remember the last time I was here and didn’t see someone calling conservatives fascists or saying they should die. Also, it is pretty rare day when I see someone use the word communist here instead of the pejorative “tankie”. Definitely not the kind of environment to foster inclusion.
If there wasn’t such an emphasis on civility, anti-racism, anti-bigotry, and non-toxicity here then I wouldn’t expect anything and probably wouldn’t even notice, but with that emphasis it seems to stand out even more.
As I understand it, seeing the same post multiple times when it is cross-posted is an app issue. The default desktop UI combines them all into one post with links near the top showing the other communities it was cross-posted to.
I never see the multiple post thing you are talking about.
This is a fantastic point. I had completely forgotten about that aspect of Voat.
It is one of those things that on the surface sounds like it could help filter out user that aren’t a good fit for a platform but can quickly lead to the platform being stuck with only a certain kind of users.
As I remember it, the Rexit that caused Voat to become so large was primarily composed disenfranchised conservatives, trolls, and those with extreme views. Even moderately conservative users were likely to feel out of place on Voat.
This Rexit seems primarily composed of disenfranchised mods, app users, and content producers. In my opinion, the much larger variety of people swapping to the Fediverse give it a much more stable base.
This is a fantastic read.
I remember febreeze coming out and being like, that would be cool but you can’t trust ads and it sounds like total BS. I knew they added a scent, but I had not idea about the subtle social manipulation that they used to shift people’s habits.
Speaking of habits, this is the first time I have heard about all the science involved in studying and breaking them.
Thank you for that link. Definitely going to save it.
