Wayland isn’t trying to be X12 and since X11 has been around, there haven’t been plans for there to be an X12 either. You want to discourage people from using Wayland but don’t encourage people to contribute to X11. You’re so hellbent on taking Wayland down, rather than further convincing people that X11 is superior and it’s easier to improve.

Yeah but the difference is we still choose our words. We can still alter sentences on the fly. I can think of a sentence and understand verbs go after the subject but I still have the cognition to alter the sentence to have the effect I want. The thing lacking in LLMs is intent and I’m yet to see anyone tell me why a generative model decides to have more than 6 fingers. As humans we know hands generally have five fingers and there’s a group of people who don’t so unless we wanted to draw a person with a different number of fingers, we could. A generative art model can’t help itself from drawing multiple fingers because all it understands is that “finger + finger = hand” but it has no concept on when to stop.

A comedian isn’t forming a sentence based on what the most probable word is going to appear after the previous one. This is such a bullshit argument that reduces human competency to “monkey see thing to draw thing” and completely overlooks the craft and intent behind creative works. Do you know why ChatGPT uses certain words over others? Probability. It decided as a result of its training that one word would appear after the previous in certain contexts. It absolutely doesn’t take into account things like “maybe this word would be better here because the sound and syllables maintains the flow of the sentence”.

Baffling takes from people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

I’ve only had issues like this on a particular laptop. Luckily it was a work laptop so not a big deal but this thing hated Linux. It would have issues on almost every front like the audio device suddenly not working or it isn’t able to change brightness or not being able to turn on because a mouse is plugged in. Weird shit like that. Sometimes it would lock up for no reason.

I’ve installed Linux on my personal laptop and only had a few minor issues. Any issue on my PC I try to fix because I use it so often but Wayland has automated a lot of the more annoying parts like having to stream audio through my mic on Discord.

It definitely has issues that can be frustrating. I was dealing with applications not hooking up to my audio properly but it turned out that pipewire needed a restart then it was good to go. I’m currently waiting for LCARSWM to be updated so I can test it out. My Bluetooth keyboard hasn’t been interacting well but this might be fixed but I’ll need to test it.

I love to tinker and problem solving is my bread and butter so Linux is ideal for me. I hated how much Windows kept obscuring things I needed to see just to play around with settings. It’s almost accepted that some shit will require getting into the weeds with because Linux is so overlooked by companies that something somewhere will break. I’m fine with it because I enjoy the challenge and I hate the sacrifices I’d have to make to use Windows.

They may be dramatised but the Linux stuff he does by typing commands into the terminal is real.

We can’t discuss the post if we can’t tell what it’s even about. There’s so much shit there that it’s not clear what point it’s even trying to make.

Pretty much, yeah. Shoes have some utility which varies between the type of shoe it is but that’s typically not a reason to collect shoes, it’s just how I see them. I don’t feel the need to have more than one type of shoe for the task I need them for.

Action figures I can see from the perspective of nostalgia, I guess. My friend collects Godzilla/Kaiju/80s Sci-Fi figures and I can get that they look nice on a shelf. But if we compare that to say Warhammer miniatures then it’s a different ballgame. Warhammer miniatures need to be assembled and then painted which is a time-consuming process especially for a beginner like me. Some people like assembling and painting miniatures others like the tabletop they’re used for so one group can cater to the other. Some people like doing both.

I mentioned my PS3 and abandonware titles but I’m not collecting them just because I want to own them. I back up the data from the discs onto my PC for preservation/emulation purposes.

So yeah, the goal is important to me.

I don’t remember if it was said in the doc itself or it was a video discussing the doc (I think Hbomberguy), that said “they (flat earthers) are attempting a form of science”.

To me, what that says is, if they were intellectually honest with genuine curiosity, then they would’ve changed their views in the face of contradictory evidence. Time and time again, they showed that they weren’t willing to do that even after seeing the results of their own experiments.
