You’re a very typical US citizen that has bought into the “mah free dumbs” lie. There are 8 billion people on the planet and regulations are about those people (or some subset thereof) having a way to get along without buggering up someone else’s freedom. It’s all very well driving a car, but the asthma you cause in someone else necessitate regulation for many other people’s freedom. USA is one of the very few places on the planet that has Jay walking laws, because most countries recognise people’s freedom to walk in the street, ffs, it’s not rocket science, it’s a very basic freedom.

I stated programming games on a school computer in the early to mid 80’s. When the tape drive broke, I still used to have the code in my head, just type it all in for others to play. Now I find code I wrote last month and can’t remember doing it. At least it tends to be, “which genius wrote this” these day. Tend to leave comments everywhere for myself now, including my own name and other messages to myself like,“don’t touch this it works, your bug will be in…”

My comment is a reflection on the somewhat fragile nature of the USA as a single federal nation, as alluded to in the comment I was replying to, and how the EU is driving well beyond what has been tried there - for example fiscal union is not a goal in the US. People can downvote me all they want, but it is not a pro Brexit statement. It’s very rare for people outside the US to understand the very strongly independence each individual state is, with limited fiscal and political union. Unfortunately the Lisbon Threaty has set the EU on a path of ultimate destruction, which will happen whether you downvote me or not 🤷‍♂️

With the latest and greatest EU threaty driving for ever closer political, legal and fiscal union, which was the whole point of the Lisbon Treaty, the EU could have made the same mistake. Not only did this terrible idea start the calls for Brexit, it may well reduce further membership growth.

The history is well documented. Blair made an election promise for a referendum on Lisbon. When he saw the way the referendum would go, he abandoned the idea and signed Lisbon anyway. Cameron, in the opposition, therefore, made an election promise on membership, and he won the General election and a change from Labour to Conservative government. He followed through with the referendum, very confident he would win the remain vote. Johnson lied his ass off and convinced enough people to win the leave vote. My only fucking point is that I agree with the poster I am replying to and here’s another example of trying to take homogeneous union too fucking far.

Copyright is fucking wierd and an anomaly. It has only existed very recently in all history. Part of the reason we have the works of Shakespeare is due to the fact that there was no copyright then, so taking a part of someone else’s work and rehashing into something new was common and innovative. Disney do this with old folk stories, but then they get to “copyright” it? It’s abhorrent. It stifles further creativity. Take that horrible weirdo TERF who wrote some wizarding shit. She would have done very nicely without copyright protection. It’s not needed. So-called “piracy” is just normal behaviour. Nothing wrong with it.
