Unironically the answer is “shop less.”

Prices on goods rise when demand for goods stays sufficient to support the price going up. The less everyone buys, the less things will cost.

Prices for goods have almost nothing to do with the price of rent, but the mechanisms there are the same - it’s just that you have to encourage building rather than “live somewhere less” because the second option really isn’t tenable, for obvious reasons.

If you want rent to come down, campaign for, vote for, or even run for office to be the candidate that will change zoning laws and encourage building multifamily housing.

Sustainable packaging has almost unlimited growth potential and is seeing massive private investment, and we should leverage that market to curb both pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

I don’t disagree, I just thought that was a fun fact.

I work on sustainable packaging, and it’s something not a lot of people think about. The company is extremely passionate about supply chain efficiency (both as a cost and as environmental impact), so it’s something that comes up with us pretty regularly.

Fun fact:

In terms of total greenhouse gas emissions, you’d generally have to use around 400 disposable bags made from sustainable products to equal one reusable tote.

This is because the vast majority of those totes are imported from southeast Asia.

Let’s do a thought experiment. Robert Reich is a popular left-leaning person in all forms of media. He’s also a liar, who plays down his own involvement in protecting his housing investment while constantly arguing for housing policy changes. He’s a NIMBY who wrote letters arguing against low income housing in his area, but consistently argues for low income housing.

Should all of his content be removed? If not, why?

FWIW I specifically chose someone whose politics I agree with, but who is demonstrably a liar and a hypocrite. Should I lose access to a person who I think is an effective voice, just because he’s a liar?
