  • The old gif format doesn’t support audio. Anything called gif with audio are mp4 video files. On the imgur site, you may have seen files with the extension gifv, but…

Quote : “When you view a GIFV file on a website such as Imgur, you’re viewing a video file, which would normally have the file extension .mp4 or .webm. The server is configured to serve the video using the extension “.gifv,” but the video’s file format is unchanged.”

Lemmy’s web instances do not display real videos. Also some applications, like Jerboa, do not display videos. Because of this, you have to convert the video to the outdated animated picture format - gif.

This format appears in all applications and web instances, but does not contain audio.

I think if we all flood the developers with requests for video support in Lemmy, things might change.

  • I enabled traffic logging in the firewall After stopping all Internet applications, only Google framework services exchange traffic. This is probably the activity of system applications.

As for browser traffic, I don’t know which IPs may belong to advertising services.

I found some mention in the search engine:

“AppTornado with its product AppBrain provides an Android apps discovery, promotion and monetization platform to developers and users. It provides play store analytics in the means of rankings and statistics to developers and an optimization platform based on cost per install for their Android apps. It enables users to discover apps using the platform by providing personalized and daily app recommendations.”

Mastodon apps don’t have the same variety of UI as Lemmy. Applications for Lemmy are simpler and more intuitive for new users who come from traditional social networks (such as Reddit).

Who knows what the developers are planning?

I think sausage made from cow’s teats is quite a tasty product.

My grandfather loved liver sausage, and I became nostalgic for this product. I decided to buy this sausage, but modern liver sausage under any brand consists of 1% liver and 99% flour…

One of the chain stores sells branded shiny sausages. The semolina in the composition gives them shine. Also, when you bite into a sausage, a jelly similar to snot trails behind the piece. As you understand, there is no meat in these sausages (although it is present in the composition).

  • I recently tried to register in XMPP. I found a site on the Internet with a list of servers and it took me more than an 30minets to register.

You may ask why it took so long? The fact is that registration was closed on some sites. Some sites did not open through the browser.

I managed to register on some servers, but messages to these addresses were not delivered (messages sent from these addresses also did not reach the recipient).

Quick registration through the Conversations and Blabber applications also produced errors.

(One of the problematic servers is og.im)

In general, if you want to quickly register and start chatting with a friend without any problems, this may not work.

I think one recommended server added by default to the application by the developer could solve this problem. (For example, like in Matrix, where you are asked to register with matrix.org)
