For me it doesn’t matter for lemmy as a whole. But if there is any truth to it, I want nothing with the instances that are administrated by these guys.
I have to ask.
Is there any truth to what has been said about Lemmy’s dev ?
Bleak urban funeral home ?
Honestly, reading the comments of some out there regarding this issue. I’m starting to think that they did the right choice.
It doesn’t take long to find fairly rude or insulting content regarding this.
Most people have no reason to care if a small instance decided to sail away.
It’s disappointing because I think this platform is already turning into reddit in term of tone/aggressiveness.
And it’s not even just comments, it’s upvoting memes that are genuinely rude or targeting a specific community. I don’t like the way this is going.
It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.
Honestly, I respect their decision but at the same time I wonder why they didn’t create a standalone unfederated from the get go.
If you want to keep the community small and tightly nit it’s just not compatible with the federation system. Now people got invested in some beehaw communities only to end up disconnected from them.
Still, it’s not like there is a guide for this. We are all learning how to make the federation work. I hope we can keep it civil toward instances that choose to defederate.
We are all invested in the same thing: Making Lemmy successful.
To some extent I think you can do most of that on Lemmy.
You can upload images for your posts (not sure for short videos) and cross-post them to other communities.
Edit: I don’t know kbin.social but I suspect it would be more adequate to what you want to do.
