How does he not just topple over? Does the shit in his diaper act as a counter balance?

That’s true. They may not be factoring in government benefits. Things like universal health care.
Wow, how many students are they expecting? I assume they’ll be pulling from a lot of the surrounding area.
Many people here are talking about under-funding of education in the US. If you look at expenditure per student vs GDP per capita, the US is actually doing fairly well when compared to the rest of the world. Our problems aren’t funding related (though I wouldn’t argue against more funding). Our problems are allocation and priority related.

Interesting. I didn’t realize that dividend rates are so much lower than rate of return. Why are they so much lower? Does that mean that your money is only growing at 2-2.5% in an index fund or does that mean that your investment is growing at the same time as you are taking out a portion of your returns as a dividend?
I’m just starting to learn about investing as I try to shift some of my savings towards long-term investments. I think I need to find a fee-based financial planner to get me pointed in the right direction.
A very conservative rate of return on investments would be 5% per year. With $2.8M, 5% is $140,000/year. So, someone with $2.8M invested would, conservatively, earn $149K per year without touching the principal.
Just FYI, in case it helps anyone. I work in acedemia and have worked in goverents positions. Academic and governmental institutions are so scared of being sued for discrimination that we have all kinds of rules about what you are and are not allowed to consider in a hiring decision. At least for the instiutions that I have worked for, asking about or considering gaps in work has been on the list of “no, you cannot ask anything about that”.
It’s crazy that I’ve never seen this picture before but the expressions on their faces immediately told me that this was Of Mice and Men.
I actually had forgotten that Leela is Katey Segal. I thought it was funny without that extra context.
How the hell did anyone figure out that these random looking rocks could make sounds like bells? How idd they figure it out in the past and how did they figure it out again in modern times?
I kept thinking “surely this was attached to something else and they didn’t just give a mint and a few stupid jokes”. Then I noticed another one of these stuck to a locker in the background. What pieces of trash. You don’t show appreciation by saying “You are appreciated”. You show appreciation by compensating your employees for their work.
How does archive.org work?
Biden was in the news saying he wants to get rid of hidden fees. I was surprised that restaraunts weren’t on the list of industries being targeted. This kind of fee should be illegal. It should be required to be a part of the up-front price.
Hell, I feel the same about sales tax. It should be baked in to the price you see on the shelf or menu.
Thank you, I hadn’t looked around in quite a while I guess. That is getting deployed tomorrow!
That dashboard looks handy. The lack of one for ingress-nginx is frustrating.
I’ll have to give it a closer look. I’ve been using ingress-nginx in my k8s clusters, but one of my colleagues has been recommending that I take a look at traefik.
May I ask what you prefer about traefik over nginx? I’ve been using nginx for a long time, so I’m just curious.
They’ll say anything in the moment to justify the decisions that the corporations paid for. Their positions don’t need to be consistent for longer than a few minutes.
They also defederated from instances that have open sign-ups because they allow bots to join too easily. This included lemmy.world.
How does the archive.org exemption work? When is it voted on next?
