They’re pretty insecure anyway, my current P14s Gen1 has a working fingerprint reader on Silverblue but I haven’t really used it.
Nice. Software developer, gamer, occasionally 3d printing, coffee lover.

I haven’t used a T14, just the E14 and the P14S.
New ish. My current Thinkpad is a P14s Gen 1 with a Ryzen 4750U 16GB of RAM, and it came with a 512GB SSD. I paid just under $300 for it on eBay and well worth the cost. I wouldn’t get anything that is still a TXXX variant anymore though (e g. T490), they simplified the product line. So T490 was replaced by the E14 Gen 1, and the P14s Gen 1 is an AMD variant.
Highly recommend. One thing worth noting though is to double check the fingerprint reader if you desire that, the E14 Gen 1 has a reader not compatible with Linux in a functional way. The P14s Gen 1 however does.
For me personally I don’t have much control over my empathy. Sure I can look at someone and glean their emotional state based on conscious guessing, but my “affective empathy” as you put it, is more my brain subconsciously picking up on their emotional state and then sharing it.
For most emotions, including anger, it’s not targeted. Not until I actively participate in the emotion. It’s also not something that applies to everyone and every situation, with my own personal emotions easily overriding the empathetic emotions.
Of course, everyone experiences empathy their own way.
The complexities involved, even with solutions, are just too much for current humans. Genetically engineering ourselves could work, though I’m more in favor of just digitizing ourselves ha.
I recall this and the allegations / issues with the vendors they reviewed as being my “final straw” to stop viewing their content. This itself had a prominent place in my memory, but I don’t recall much about the other scandal / issues at the time. Anyone recall that stuff and if they were similarly addressed? All I remember was I stopped caring after that pitiful we’re sorry video from the new CEO.
It’s a double whammy too because occasionally I’ll just get bored of coffee and drop it, then a few days later I’m wondering why I have a gnarly headache.
Only reason I have a smart washer and dryer is so they can send me a notification when they finish their load. As someone with ADHD and anxiety that’s a godsend.
When I create an event I can set an email reminder. Not a great workaround and I’m sure you’ve been told it but an option nonetheless.
If you have it rendered permanently inoperable per ATF guidelines you can technically throw it away. Still alot of hassle when buybacks are a thing.
Most guns don’t really wear out in a reasonable timeframe. Properly maintained they can last quite a while. My first gun was from the 80s.
For gun owners in the U.S. if we no longer want a gun, don’t want to go through the hassle of selling it, or the gun is unsafe (due to wear and tear or defects), or wherever reason really if we just want to get rid of it we have many options.
We can surrender a gun to our local police, though they may run its serial which might lead to awkward situations if you aren’t certain of its history. There are also gun buybacks which are essentially events where you can discard a gun for cash incentive, and are typically no questions asked. You could also donate it to a local gunsmith for practice. And finally, you could render it inoperable (the ATF has guidelines that basically boil down to “weld the important stuff”) and simply discard it like trash, use it as decoration, or whatever really.
Ultimately they either end up melted down, welded inoperable, or simply discard / forgotten.
No worries, you’re probably closer to the truth of it anyway, I’ve only ever been a social smoker.
I was responding to the way OP depicted his smoking as “every other day at night”. If they had just said their roommate smoked I would have interpreted it like you present it. Designated clothes are a good idea though. Scentless lysol works but for a chain smoker is going to burn a hole in the pocket.
I would start by discussing with him. Taking a shower after smoking would eliminate the smell, and in a pinch a quick spray down with scentless Lysol would help. Treating the cause is far easier. If the smell seeps into the walls you can kiss goodbye to your security deposit.
As someone who despises ads, if adblock on YouTube were to stop working tomorrow I wouldn’t use YouTube until it’s fixed. So creators I do watch aren’t missing out on ad revenue they’d otherwise get with me. If I recommend a video to a friend who doesn’t block ads, a friend who otherwise wouldn’t see it, the creator still benefited from my view. For creators I enjoy often, I support them in other ways - subbing if they stream, buying merch, etc.
If I get a package requiring a signature via UPS, UPS just forces me to go into their store. Like clockwork, the delivery day comes by and at the end of it the status updates to ‘recipient unavailable to sign’ or something to that effect. I check my doorbell camera and no one ever comes to the door let alone rings it. One time I saw the UPS truck stop at my driveway and the status update timestamp was from while it was stopped. It’s pathetic. I’m not even a hard house, literally a suburbs house where the door is like 10ft from the road.
One of the first things I did when I took over an old php project was convert to bcrypt and add logic to automatically upgrade the hash on their next login (and in case you’re wondering, we also removed the old insurance hashes and the upgrade logic after a while, forcing remaining users to do a password reset).
I used Arch for AUR, but with flatpak getting more popular these last few years even the more niche stuff I had to rely on AUR for got a flatpak. So I’ve been trying out immutable distros like Fedora Kinoite.
A heat gun is also inexpensive and very useful. 3M mount you need to remove (and/or reuse)? Heat gun. Sticker? Heat gun. Frazzled threads on clothes? Heat gun. No time to properly blow dry? Heat gun! (the last one is a joke, don’t do that).
I really like the way my current company handles things. Aside from annual raises that take effect July 1st (currently waiting for approval, but if that happens after July 1st the raises are retroactive to the first), we have open bars (free drinks) every other month, company wide lunch events a few times a month, other general events (had a Juneteenth and Pride event this month). Oh, and all these events are paid time (you still have to hit your KPIs though).
A fairly well stocked kitchen (you could make your own lunch if you wanted to), coffee and espresso machines, sparkling water / flavored water one as well, snacks, the whole deal. Yes it’s not perfect but I’ve been happy so far.
