I was more stating what I think will happen rather than wat we should be doing.
In terms of pure physics it is ofc easier to turn off the metaphorical tap, but in terms of power and politics we seem unable to transition to renewables. And I’m afraid once we switch on the geo-engineering button we still won’t transition. Only once oil is priced out of the market completely, be it fusion or abundant solar and wind (with energy storage), will we make the transition. But again I might be too pessimistic.
Fusion would solve a lot, but even if we invent room-temperature superconductors today, it would still take so much time to roll fusion out on a big scale and replace oil infrastructure with electric infrastructure.
I tend to be very pessimistic about climate change, but I hope I’m wrong.
If it was possible I would put quite some money on that geo engineering (like stratospheric aerosol injection) will be seriously discussed on a UN level within ten years. Climate change seems only to speed up and co2 emissions are still rising. At one point there is simply no alternative.
To quote Not Just Bikes: “the USA wasn’t built for cars, it was destroyed for cars”
Most cities in the US were walkable and public transport oriented, but in the fifties all livable neighborhoods and city centers were bulldozed to make place for parking lots and arterial roads.
100% right. Individuals know best what their own gender is. If you have an ideology prescribing acceptable gender expression for others, you are a danger to society.
Quelle surprise, Google wants to violate your privacy.
The Taylor airplane meme has basically been played out and is no longer funny.
But for me the reason I found those memes funny is the same why I find it more interesting to take the piss out of Bill Gates rather than Musk. Everyone already knows Musk is a complete nut job. But there seem to be an alarming amount of people that think Gates is genuinely a good person because of his stupid charity.
From what I see Taylor Swift is just a business woman doing business, and she is very good at that. So most decisions she makes are because she assesses that they are good for her brand, and this includes political decisions/ standpoints. The airplane angle is one of the few things she can not control in this regard, and that is why I find/found it funny to stress that point.
My comment quoting the Mueller report got deleted from .world because I was spreading “mis information”.
Idk, I got it from the boss when I started working there, no label on it sadly.
Does it say what he was doing in Dallas November the 22nd 1963?
If you scroll trough my comment history you’ll see what I think of Bill Gates :)
And I’m not rage bated, I just find Taylor Swift the ecocidal maniac memes very funny.
She only emitted the CO2 equivalent of a small African country to get there.
I mean Churchill was extremely right wing and racist. His beef with Hitler was less ideological and more about power.
Can we not make everything on Lemmy about political memes?
I don’t have to imagine, no clue.
He said he can’t remember what he was doing that day in Dallas, if he had killed Kennedy don’t you think he would have remembered?
Quite impressive how William Henry Gates III managed to PR himself from infamous ruthless capitalist to everyone’s favorite philanthropist. Especially considering he somehow got richer after promising to give away his money.
The point is, there is no rules based order. The rules only apply to the global south, the US has explicitly stated they will bomb or invade The Netherlands if the ICC ever prosecutes a US citizen. It’s just another cynical tool of power projection.
Unlike America where you get to choose between: genocide in Gaza and uhm… also genocide in Gaza.
The way Chinese elite keep themselves in power is different from the way American elites keep them selves in power, but in the end what does it matter to you. Or do you want America to bring democracy to China at the end of a riffle, or be racist against Chinese people and Culture because you don’t agree with their government?
Edit: for the people (purposely?) misreading my comment, nowhere do I excuse the actions of China. I just want to point out that this rhetoric of condemning the human rights abuses of geo-strategic rivals is a known strategy that has a body count counted in millions. And pointing at Gaza is not a whataboutism, it is to show that Americas deep care for the Uyghurs or Taiwan independence is purely about cynical power.
