Looks great! I built a controller recently too, just wanted to mention that I used the open source GP2040-CE on a Raspberry Pi Pico and it works great, it involved a bit of soldering wires with different connectors together, but there are now custom RP2040 controller boards that can run it and are plug-and-play.
I tried to play Ultra Sun using only my starter Rowlet, and had to put it down when the game forced me into a double battle. I would have been okay with hatching a second Rowlet from an egg but it didn’t work.

Nice work, I’ve used Linux desktops a lot and still don’t really know much about the mobile UIs.
Seems like all of these things are almost there, and just need a guide on what a fully set-up mobile desktop looks like. But it’s frustrating when you suddenly need to understand the internals to fix something simple. Hope you’re still having fun!

8·1 year agoThe novel Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson opens with a “wet bulb 38” heat wave in India, i.e where evaporation can’t cool you to below that temperature. Millions died in that fictional situation, so it’s horrifying to me to see headlines like this.
Battery life or thickeness will certainly take a hit.
Modern phones tend to have a big bulge for the camera, so the rest of the phone can be thickened easily without impacting the maximum thickness.
As a wide-eyed kid this seemed like a no-brainer, but then having watched what Elon does with the things he owns I’m not sure it’s such a good idea…
I’m on Beehaw with a couple of subscriptions to communities in other instances. I like viewing all of the local Beehaw communities as a “front page”, but I’d like my other subscriptions to show up in that view without having to manually subscribe to all of the Beehaw communities.
Surprised Pokemon hasn’t been mentioned yet, they’re light on story compared to more serious RPGs but they’re designed to be fun (at least following the main story) and are mostly successful. I haven’t played the latest generation but Sun and Moon was a good pair, my biggest complaint was an overly long intro.

So the encoding strategy is tunable for an encoder, but also there are different implementations that might perform differently. They all produce a h.264 video stream that’s decodable by any standard player.
