You slowly whether living for the good of all mankind (in your mind), excessive pleasure, or avoid the world more and more, just start living an experience that doesn’t make sense to more and more people.

It happens on small scales too. Like a trip to Hawaii or Disney world, or being able afford only “ethically” sources goods and having time to volunteer at your local animal shelter. These are experiences that people have seen have wanted but ultimately never afforded.

Like having time and money to travel to you families for thanksgiving, that is just not going to happen for some people, and the experience of begging for overtime to stock before black Friday is something those people may never experience or even think about.

Just like that stocker may never experience taking the kids to dump to sort through trash to find things to sell to help make it to next year’s seasonal work.

Used to be a bigger fan, but for the same reason I became more libertarian I’m not so sure it’s a practical philosophy. The biggest issue is that as soon as someone decides what is or isn’t good genetics you get a lot of bias. The majority of the human experience is social anyways.

I am probably going to break down and get truck again. Most uses people give are bs. A tarp and car will let you haul 90% of what you want. Chicken, dog, cat, pig feed. Car is fine. All of those animals too (though 300 lb pot belly pushes the limits).

If you stick it out the back of the trunk you can haul long lumber. You can load a surprising amount of rocks and concrete too.

You are probably loading and unloading appliances that often. Or furniture.

If it wasn’t for the travel trailer I would suffer through it, but its the straw that broke the cammals back. Renting is just such a pain in the dick too. I would rather have a piece of junk desiel that I am tinkering with the schedule a day to pick up a truck to race around trying to use it before I run out time.

If I need to clear brush. I just want to go do it. If I need rocks I just to get a load. Friend or family moving I can just bring the truck.

Don’t get me wrong I hate a lot of the truck out there. I don’t need a new house worth of truck to move junk around.

Fuckyoupayme is more about setting a bar for what people can ask of you. If someone suggests something and you think “heck yeah I’d personally want that” its not really an issue.

I think you maybe misunderstanding. I mean sure those are things libertarians who are also 2a supporters rail against and fight for those things, but yeah the people who are being targeted the most are the people need to exercise their 2a the most. If the only people armed are faciest or adjacent then only their rights and interests are protected by it. Without the 2a only the states rights and interests (police, DeSantis, etc) are protected with guns.

Those aren’t all swat teams, the admin running the counter isn’t coming in stomping ass on a moments notice. They aren’t all just chilling in the catacombs waiting to march on a moments notice either.

If they did however mobilize to max effect, you don’t think the arm population would immediately be on edge? That would be a full martial law order, which could be met with heavy resistance.

I have 100% seen for myself cops shape their response out to places around where I live because the risk is not worth it to them. They focus on serious crimes and will flat refuse to go to do bs calls that are just minor neighbors disputes.

If DeSantis wants to put the state in marshal law he would have to convince the armed citizens of the state that that is ok, or expect violent resistance which again cops are people, and people don’t like being shot, so expect hesitation on following some orders.

Right. I feel like maybe Free Desktop standard, tight integration with top toolkits (qt, gtk, etc) and a some image recognition for fall back.

Honestly maybe we need something like a portable guided tour format (you the “see what’s new in …” things but from strangers for specific thing).

I will say part of problem is knowledgeable volunteers will almost always want to just cp and paste a command string over the docs needed to walk someone through doing it in the current version of GUI.

I’ve done both. Repeatable user instructions for GUIs IS NOT FUN. Maybe if we can get some automation to turn vague directions into detailed ones and better yet testable (supporting something like OpenQA) it might help lower the burden for a project to do so.

I agree though, other common UX replication options would help user meet the OS where they are more. I also agree that most common system administration and user UX should be doable in a full GUI, they are just so nice for when you don’t know what you are wanting but will once you see it.

I also think VUI (voice user interfaces) would bridge the gap for a lot people and NLP would cover most of the worlds population.

Honestly people keep working on and it ebs and flows in progress. Its just a lot fing work to do it well. One day we will get to doing most functions with multimodal interface support (GUI/CLI/API/VUI/NLP/BCI?).
