It’s unbearable if I try watching a game alone but if I’m watching and drinking with a friend the board/banner ads and commercials become comical. They could limit the use of distracting colours in the ads if they are going to ice level but apparently not.
Make good use of the community/user block feature and it cleans up well. It took me a couple times going back and forth but I’m done with reddit at this point, at least for general scrolling ‘all’ sort of content.
Counter productive and hypocritical to put people into convenient groups like that to shield your opinions against any form of criticism. Well done, you’ve earned a block.
The obvious ones like cats, linux, and star trek but also meta-posts like these, comics, non-political memes, greentext, bikes, general technology. There are collapsniks and conservatives have been trying to settle recently. There’s a wide variety of niche content but they are small enough that for every 10 visitors you need someone to post something. There’s a lot here, it’s small compared to extremely large sites but is still an active message board.
yes and no
Don’t forget to try sorting by comments instead of posts! I often forgot that button exists.
About 20 and growing. I also do it for my mental health. Social media isn’t a place I want to take too seriously so my blocks are about avoiding people who seem agitated or seeking to create or participate in conflict with other members.
I’m thinking about clearing out my blocks every year just to get a sense of the land again, maybe when I’m feeling better I’ll do that.
140 in 2 months sounds like a lot to me. Are you not blocking communities? That might be more efficient?
Not really I’m more just presenting an alternate explanation. Don’t mistake me for holding strongly to this opinion, but I do feel like calling OP out as a narcissist or whatever is an unfair snap judgment. People can be different and that doesn’t make them bad most of the time.
It’s an explanation, those use words.
Not true. If you go through life being expected to act a certain way all the time that eventually takes a toll. OP is doing right by himself the same way everyone else does when they share things expecting they’ll get a narrow and specific reaction from people. If you want to throw around the n word that’s as good a place as any.
I think I’m a bit like you since I do that too. Everyone (even at work) knows that I don’t want to see baby pictures and I’m not excited about a baby. I don’t think much about having kids but parents usually really really love their kids immediately, even before they are born, and if they are close friend or family then I am ok vibing with that for their sake.
The only time I’ve actually felt positively about it is when my best friend told me they were having a baby. It took me a moment but I thought then felt that I was able to be happy because he was happy and his partner (who I also like) is happy, and then it took me a few days of thinking about it that part of me was also picking up on this excitement because I wonder what my best friends kid will be like. And it’s only because I care about him and his life a lot. I’m not close to my sister and have never felt those feelings before about babies/parents.
As a millennial who wasn’t interested in computers these types of stories will haunt me my entire life
The forum I used to spend a lot of time on in my youth was incredibly active - comments all night every couple minutes. The regional areas where practically dead. What we need are thriving core communities not critical mass. I like not being bombarded by thoughtless and judgmental comments
I’d guess that 50-100 active users could make any community feel vibrant. I’ve noticed when I post in a smaller community it can get solid responses (fast replies from a dozen or so users), but they die out after a day or two and people need to be posting all the time to keep it up.
At this point I’ve blocked so many .world communities that I don’t see that as much. There are some users who I notice bring the reddit antagonism and I tend to block them too. If I come across a post that is full of reddit quips I just block the whole community. I guess I’ve blocked fewer .ml communities overall.
Because it’s not fun
