I know people who aren’t very media savvy who fall for some stupid propaganda, but they could empty my car’s engine bay and put it back together again and have it cranking the same day. Or you can drop them in any body of water in a 250km radius and they’ll know what fish can be caught there and be able to hook an edible-sized one in half an hour or less. We don’t all have the same skill sets, but we ain’t all “stupid”.

I’ve tasked an AI with monitoring the content in this community to see if it can determine what the actual rule is. So far, it has only ever responded with “INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER”.
I only back up things that would make me sad if I lost it or cause me a lot of time-sensitive work. Personal data files and configuration files. Media? I wouldn’t sweat it if my media drive got corrupted by malware or a hack or a lightning strike. I’d just live with a smaller library until I get things re-download again. And I’d be ok if I can’t find a handful of the rarer things. Pictures of my family? Backed up locally and on a remote server with immutable backups. Configuration files? Synced with a remote git repository.

As for Mastodon, I’ve been wanting to find the time to spin up my own server for that one. I’ll definitely be getting deeper into the fediverse, but I also need outside sources of news, preferably not curated by antagonistic algorithms like Facebook.

When I shower, my hands get dry with the rest of my body using the body towel. My hand towel is a separate smaller towel by my sink that I use after eliminating waste and subsequently washing my hands.
I don’t go as extreme as OP. I have 3 towel types: large body towel that I use to dry my entire face/hair/hands/body after bathing. Smaller hand towel by the sink for drying hands/face after using the sink. And finally a separate medium-sized hair towel to wrap my long hair for further drying after I’ve already got most of the water off with my body towel. I’ll wear that towel for 5-10 minutes after bathing. That towel isn’t necessary for short hair.
The base OS is a known unchanging set of bits. Squirt this datastream onto a storage volume and boot to it and you have a known-working system. Then you can futz around with all the self-contained packaged apps you want, and no worries about weird interactions fucking over your whole system.
