Didn’t Eli Valley predict this exactly? Like, as soon as Trump won, Democrats would “bravely” stand up and declare that genocide is wrong.
/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

During the Biden-Harris years, more granular data pointed to considerable strain. Real median household income fell relative to its pre-COVID peak. The poverty rate ticked up, as did the jobless rate. The number of Americans spending more than 30 percent of their income on rent climbed. The delinquency rate on credit cards surged, as did the share of families struggling to afford enough nutritious food, as did the rate of homelessness.
Government transfers buoyed families early in the Biden administration. But they contributed to inflation, and much of the money went away in the second half of Biden’s term. The food-stamp boost, the extended child tax credit, the big unemployment-insurance payments—each expired. And the White House never passed the permanent care-economy measures it had considered.
Interest rates were a problem too. The mortgage rate more than doubled during the Biden-Harris years, making credit-card balances, car payments, and homes unaffordable. A family purchasing a $400,000 apartment with 20 percent down would pay roughly $2,500 a month today versus $1,800 three years ago.
I dunno, that all looks pretty bad too. The lesson from this election is that you can’t tunnel vision on the numbers that look good while dismissing the ones that look bad, but that’s exactly what Democrats did. Worse, when working class voters expressed their pain, Democrats talked down to them and basically told them it wasn’t real and they were being tricked by fake news.
The island of stability known as compromise.
😔
The Party won’t.
My hope is that a lot of Party members do, though. It’d be nice if progressives stopped trying to do entryism into the Democrats.
Except they made the tent big enough for Liz Cheney, but not big enough to let a Palestinian-American speak at the Convention.
Also, wild and vivid dreams.
It wasn’t even that surprising. What kind of bubble do these people live in?
Did you even volunteer for Harris or donate to her campaign? 🙄
Don’t be ridiculous.
At least a dozen Democrats will reach across the isle to work with them. 😒
I didn’t realize I was part of a protest movement! 😲
This assumes that Democrats want to win at any cost. Listening to Sanders is a bridge too far.
Democrats would rather lose than do even the most tepid social democratic reformism.
Get off my nuts, I want to build a labor party. I just think it’s going to be extremely fucking hard and we should recognize it. We still have to do it.
I heard an interesting idea on the Red Menace pod that tenant organizing might be the key to building a labor movement. Unlike AFL-CIA affiliates which are poisoned with labor aristocracy, almost all tenants are universally poor workers. That’s a potentially huge source of power.
Even if you added them all together they’d struggle to pull more than a couple percent.
It’s an uphill struggle.
It’s not just that people are struggling under the current economic conditions.
It’s that the Democrats responded to it by telling voters that inflation has gone down and the economy is great and anyone trying to convince them times are hard are actually just lying. It was infuriating to be talked down to that way and people rejected it.
That’s why I favor building a labor party and splintering the Democrats away from their shitty party. Their party is full of people who do not belong and would be more at home in a different party, if we had a system that wasn’t so unfavorable to third parties.
The only choice is to replace the Democrats as the only other party. Let all the right-wing Democrats join the Republicans and we build a new party with everyone who is left.
Seems… Impossibly hard to do though.
There is no home for progressives in the Democratic Party. At this point the only hope is to go independent like Sanders or join one of the third parties and abandon Democrats entirely. Democrats will never learn.
… Unless you’re going to tell me her campaign was somehow unaware of this fairly widely published IMEU poll.
They were in a bubble of other blue-no-matter-who media and were assured by the consultants from Clinton’s campaign and the Labour Party that they could ignore those polls.
So really, it would have taken a big enough push from the public that MSNBC became anti-genocide. Hypothetically it could have happened, but the Democratic base is too disorganized to pull that kind of bottom-up messaging coup off.
If Democrats knew they’d lose for supporting genocide,.they wouldn’t have done it. It’s precisely because blue-no-matter-who voters convinced them that they were invincible that they ended up losing. They thought they could bully the base into voting for them because enough of the base was willing to be bullied and proud of it.
On the other side, Trump is more likely to lose the war on Palestine.
There needs to be a purge within the Party. These corporate freaks and consultants and their pet politicians must be expelled from the Party. Democrats can’t allow them to call the shots anymore.
The limit is our distance from the Sun. After a certain point the greenhouse gasses can’t make up for the fact that we just get less radiation than Venus does. The maximum potential I’ve seen is 10°C - almost all life would go extinct and we’d have to live on the tropical Antarctic archipelago, but not Venus.
