I think there was a new version of lemmy released so the instance may be in the process of being updated.

The lack of voice channels is huge for something that looks like it is trying to be a discord alternative. I really can’t believe it still isn’t really implemented.
Honestly though even setting aside the lack of voice channels there is a bigger issue. Getting people to switch to something like matrix. I have so much trouble trying to get my group to switch to ANYTHING new. Tried to get them to switch from iMessage to telegram or signal. They tried it for a day and then went back. Getting them to switch from razer comms to discord was even a removed back in the day. People just don’t like trying new things.
Sorry for the rant I just find this endlessly frustrating. Lol.
You aren’t doing anything wrong! This site/app (lemmy) and the concept (fediverse) are still super early days so there are going to be many problems. The site has some layout issues and there isn’t nearly as much content as Reddit but that’s just because it is new.
The most important bit, to me at least, is that the fundamental idea of the fediverse is good. We have had to many instances where social sites like Reddit, Facebook and Twitter can just decide what people can and can’t say, they can remove our content and they can monetize it all without doing any real work of their own as far as creating content. The idea of the fediverse ensures that no one server, person or company has all the content and thus the control.
I really hope people stick with something fediverse whether it be lemmy, kbin or any of the other projects out there. Post content there, cross post it from Reddit if you really have to post to Reddit too for whatever reason. Please don’t give these companies all the control anymore.
I agree that it probably won’t work but I’m trying to be hopeful that people will see that there are other places to post content and interact with each other that don’t view us as cattle.
I can’t stand the stock Reddit app and more importantly I think it’s disgusting the way Reddit has treated the Apollo dev so I won’t be going back regardless of what happens. If people go to lemmy or kbin or whatever other alternatives I’ll join but if not I guess I just won’t participate and this kind of content anymore.
Damn it… yeah take your upvote…
I wonder how well it will run on the steam deck. Specifically mine where I only have 64gb of internal storage and most of my games are on an SD card.
I’m really dying to find out if this blackout continues past the first 48 hours and if it has any impact on their decision.
It sort of doesn’t matter to me since the Apollo dev already said he wasn’t going to keep his app up due to how spez handled the whole situation.
Yeah I’m pretty pessimistic about this game right now but we’ll see how it is when it gets closer to and after release. It could surprise us. You never know.
I truly hope that mods just stop and let all of Reddit overflow with garbage bot posts. Let them try to IPO with a site full of useless garbage.
The contact card customization is a good idea. As far as I understood it you make your own contact card for yourself and that is what shows when you call someone. I imagine it only works if you are calling an iPhone user but still cool.
I took a quick look at this and it seems that the server portion of this product is open source but the apps such as extensions are not. I’m not saying it’s bad or even that it’s a red flag. I just felt like I should point it out.
