I’m on board with this, but I may be biased because I also don’t like using Discord for anything else. Every time someone sends me a Discord invite I feel a little defeated, because it is usually after I have agreed to participate in something.
But they haven’t found the facial database and Invenda claims they don’t have one, right? Their story is that the machine takes an image, runs some local processing to determine demographic info about the user/customer/target/victim, and then stores that instead of storing the image or biometrics.
There’s a good chance they’re lying but claiming the database has been “revealed” when no one has found it yet seems like sensationalism.
Edit: “Secret demographic database derived from facial recognition” would be true but sounds less snappy, I guess?

I hate videos where the title is a question but could just be the answer, so I searched the answer instead of clicking: it’s Germany’s country code, .de, which has 16.1 million registered domains. The next two are .uk and .cn, which belong to the United Kingdom and China, with 10.6 million and 9 million domains, respectively.
This is the first I’ve heard of Jumplight Odyssey. It looks potentially cool, but $30 for an early access title is a big ask in a year completely saturated with banger games, and based on the reviews it seems to need a bit more time before it is really ready. I’m not surprised, then, that it didn’t do as well as they hoped: if they hadn’t just announced that they’re stopping development, I would have put it on my wishlist to come back to in a year or two when it’s feature-complete, and when hopefully I’m not in the middle of so many other games already. If that’s a typical response, they probably didn’t get many sales.
In the initial phase, the official fix (just purge your cache and redownload the filter lists to get the latest ones) didn’t work for me, but the second revision of a filter someone posted to Lemmy did. It had the side effect of making it impossible to scroll down on video pages, but it’s not like the comments on Youtube are super valuable most of the time anyway.
After a week or so I deleted that one to see how the official filters were doing, and it turned out they worked great and I haven’t had an issue since.
I’m not sure this tracks. If the unicorn-shoe-believer really believes in shoe unicorns, how could they not tell other people how to wear shoes? If they stand by and do nothing, then billions of unicorns will come to harm from people wearing their shoes wrong. If someone told me they believe in shoe unicorns, but they don’t care how I wear my shoes, I would suspect that they don’t REALLY believe in shoe unicorns.
I get really bad embarrassment squick (watching other people in uncomfortable situations makes me very uncomfortable) and this show is 100% unwatchable, which means it is definitely hilarious for anyone who isn’t afflicted by a similar condition.
According to the article, it didn’t, but they didn’t know that when they bought the ferret. The particles weren’t making it through and they didn’t know why, so they employed a ferret to explore the tube. When she made it around, they knew there was no obstruction, and realized they had a different problem.
I’m not sure what the news here is. “It’s easy to make machine learning models less safe on purpose” doesn’t seem surprising. The most concerning part is that you might make it less safe while trying to do benign fine tuning, but that info is buried in the middle of the article and not what it’s calling attention to.
