If you have cannabinoid hyperemesis, best to stay away from weed because the constant nausea/vomiting can lead to unintentional weight loss and a lot of other physical problems that are no fun.

Yeah but if someone is searching “why is my wife/husband yelling at me,” the statistics on abuse for that sub-popularion may not be as skewed. And providing resources for men (especially men with children) doesn’t take Google that much more effort/money, and it provides a much needed service. As it stands, it is nearly impossible for an abused man (especially one with children) to seek out help using the types of services that are available for women. So if Google can help with that search a little bit, what’s the harm in showing that info? Aaand, even for someone searching about their abusive husband, the googler may be a man, and most services that are for abused women don’t have resources for men.

Do you know how motherboards split up this 1amp spec? Does each USB port on a motherboard have 1amp, or do they often end up sharing?

I’ve actually found that I cannot add too many more ports without it being a powered USB hub. Expanding 3-4 is fine, but if you’re trying to add on like 10-15, it won’t work unless the hub is powered.

All of that interest is from people making computers, or people who manage security. Not from people that use computers as part of their life/work (in contrast to those who’s work is entirely about the computer itself). From a usability standpoint, this type of sandboxing for every app is cumbersome and all it leads to is users finding unsafe work arounds. I used to be able to use my android phone much more as a regular computer than I can now. And I wanted to make a simple app for myself to allow me to automatically copy and catalog photos from my cameras sd card to an external HDD, and I literally cannot do this without jumping through a million permissions and API hoops on Android even though I never plan on publishing this app for others to use. It became such a pain to figure out how to get access to the folders I would need, I just gave up on the entire project. I essentially needed a tool to systematically copy and rename files, and it’s nearly impossible because of these nonsensical policies.

Sure except that we already have computers where every app uses the same folder structure, just with some files/folders protected with elevated permissions that aren’t accessible to every app. We already have a solution that works and every desktop OS uses. Why would mobile go for a solution that isn’t actually usable?

I think someone who’s committed murder is a perfect analogy actually. For people who serve their time or whatever after committing murder, there’s no legal standing for not employing them. You might feel uncomfortable as their coworker, which is totally valid. You may also believe that there is no forgiveness or second chances after committing certain crimes like rape and murder. But unless the employer has a good reason why an ex-murderer cannot perform their work duties or is currently doing illegal things at work, I don’t think they can not hire them just based off of that.

I think this is mostly because it’s a smaller community overall so when you’re in those politically minded subreddits, it’s all the same opinion. I think it’ll change as lemmy grows and more people with diverse experiences and outlooks join the discussions.

Yeah this sounds like someone doesn’t know rust and instead of learning it they’re porting to Java? It might also be a way to capture an existing userbase as it’s still compatible with lemmy, but also adds features that might cause more people to use it. But being written in Java is an excuse to make it more difficult to migrate the additions back upstream to lemmy. Maybe they hope that this will eventually allow them to build out a private platform?

Sometimes when you’re on hour 12 of your shift working 6-7 shifts/week, after having dealt with 20 similar patients that day, you need a coffee before being able to properly evaluate the next potentially lethal leg infection.

I’d be willing to bet the actual interaction with the doctor is a short part of the 2 hours that you’re there. And I think this is where a lot of the scheduling frustration comes in.

For the US: Sometimes the physician doesn’t actually control scheduling, it is done by whoever owns/runs the clinic. Also, there arent scheduled gaps because lots of things need to happen when a patient shows up. So while the physician finishes up with the last patient and is doing their documentation, an MA or RN will start intake on the next patient taking them to their room, getting vitals, etc. Then the physician sees them. So even 20 min appointments are generally longer because someone might arrive on time at 1pm, then by the time they’re checked in, in a room, done with vitals, it might already be 1:10. So there are like natural gaps that occur in the schedule. But I agree that the lack of transparency in the process really makes it difficult to stay on schedule. Ideally there’d be 1:1 appointment: documentation time for each patient, however payment structures are not designed for this. Instead they like to maximize the number of patients seen per day.

If you’re reporting your income on your taxes then your employer literally cannot be doing that. Sure it gets averaged over your pay period, but you should still be making at least minimum wage.

Also to clarify, the rationale for tip based workers having a lower default minimum wage is that if they do not come up to the regular minimum wage with their tips+salary, then employer has to make up the difference. But usually they end up making more than minimum wage with the tips.

It really worked well for my use case during the pandemic. I was in a research lab and while I did most of my computational work from home, when I had experiments to do I would go in, and used dex to update my data spreadsheets and collect imaging, upload to our computational cluster and be able to run some basic stuff on that through an ssh terminal. I was just using Google sheets for my basic data entry. And I had a dock already set up there for my laptop, which had attached ethernet, a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. So I could just plug my phone into the USB c and have an instant solution that worked just like a computer and connected to the secure network over ethernet (which was required for the fastest upload to the cluster).

The biggest limitations was only being able to have 5 windows open at once, but for the limited tasks I needed to do, it worked well enough.
