I don’t think people realise how generous steam is by allowing Devs to sell steam keys on other platforms and still handle all the distribution and updates and everything for a key they didn’t get paid for, and all they ask is you give the same or better deal to customers who purchase direct through steam
Given that steam let’s you sell keys on other platforms (like gog, gmg, etc) and activate them on steam, and have steam handle all the heavy work of file distribution and stuff, it makes sense that steam wouldn’t want you to sell steam keys cheaper on other platforms and make them wear all the cost of distribution… Otherwise they’d get no sales and end up with all the expense
The only other choice would be to no longer allow you to get steam keys to sell on other platforms or even to give away for review purposes or things like that.
For a bit of context for those not too familiar with CDN stuff. My web server hosts about 20 small business websites. None are heavy on images or video or anything else. Most sites have well under 1k visitors a day, some are under 100.
Each month CloudFlare CDN saves me between 40-60gb of traffic which is nothing my server couldn’t handle, but over a year is ~600gb in saved data so it adds up
If you had a Lemmy instance with even just 100 active users, with all the images and videos and all the federated background communications, that would add up extremely quickly.
FYI French
Also pill cutter seriously? Heard of knifes?
This coming from the nation that invented the guillotine
It’s a shitty situation that’s causing mods and users alike a lot of frustration and might be a bit before it’s sorted.
Unfortunately I think this is something that will need to be dealt with Federation wide before it’s under control… But even then it’ll still add a lot of extra ongoing work to the mods of instances and communities just to clean up anything that gets through
It’s not just this community, or even just Lemmy… Mastodon and other Federation services all struggling with the same issue at the moment
You know how artists can poison their images for AI… We need a way to poison content on Reddit
So this study was done:
https://opg.optica.org/jdt/abstract.cfm?uri=jdt-10-8-635
And the summary result was:
The results indicated that the moving picture quality improved more with an increase in frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (fps) than from 120 to 240 fps when viewing from a distance of 3 H (three times the image height).
This article goes into the depth of it: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/8531714
And if I’m understanding the study correctly (which there’s a high chance I am as it’s 4 am and I haven’t had more than an hour sleep in 2 days) but essentially the brain perceived higher frame rates to be higher quality across all participants but with diminishing returns
This is all probably only part of the answer you’re looking for but hopefully it helps you to find the full answer
I’ll take the olives if you don’t want them
Good for you. I have too… That doesn’t mean it’s safe or legal everywhere and doesn’t give any reason why turning it into a portable bedroom is a bad idea
A) it’s not always safe to sleep outside when travelling
B) it’s not always legal to sleep where you are
So by taking your own bed in the pocket dimension, you’ll always have a safe, comfortable and legal place to stay without any cost
Tailscale also has the funnel option to open up a single service to the outside world without needing a reverse proxy and has its own ssl certificates
As a patient, I concur, also why does it look more like a transfusion than dialysis?
I second Lenovo tiny. I have 3 x m920q with a gigabit switch and total combined power draw is about 53w
I have a machine rinse my kidneys 3 times a week… Today is not one of those days
Not sure this would entirely replace portainer for me since that manages multiple machines, but I am keen to play with this
You’re assuming that everybody that buys a tablet like this also wants/has a laptop. Many people ONLY want the tablet as a portable computer while having a more powerful desktop in their home or office
In my case I have a tablet and a laptop, but my laptop ends up staying at home 99% of the time docked and acting as a desktop. When it comes time to replace it, I’ll just get a desktop and keep the tablet
I’m from Australia and on disability pension. And yeah, I have 3 Linux boxes to play with haha
I’m curious who is the arbitrator for what’s a valid security concern or not. If it’s done by an independent group, it might make it harder to get around. If it’s self disclosed, then yeah nothing will change
