It’s about the type of audience they want to attract moving forward. Is it the type that harasses a guy for legally buying a YouTube play button when administrative issues prevented him from getting his own until he committed suicide? Those are a large portion of the people that would have had a big problem with a humorless apology. Having your apology labelled as “generic” is not the worst thing in the world. I feel like if they hadn’t acted like LTT does with the humor and hallmarks, people would have called it a worthless generic apology video.
Now they call it insensitive and all that. I have a feeling there was no winning for them.
Why does there need to be a way for them to win? An apology is the bare minimum. It doesn’t wipe away what they’ve done.
