OK guys I just got out of my 2 day ban for “trolling”. All I did was make post on here and it wasn’t even the type of thing that would get you in trouble for posting it on reddit. This is unacceptable. The goal of this place is to be as much like shitty ask reddit as possible. Lemmy.ml apparently doesn’t like shitposting so we need to move somewhere with better rules.

Any ideas on where we should go? By default, I’m going to go with beehaw maybe but idk.

Damn, I can’t login. Guess they banned me ahead of time or something. Can you run a lemmy instance on something like bluehost or do you have to actually have a full featured server to do it?

If you created an account on sopuli.xyz then either try your username or email address, and if it still doesn’t seem to let you log in then I have found doing a password reset and changing it to a shorter password works.

You probably could use something like bluehost, but they may not like it using all the resources, and you may not get access to certain things (like SSH, each website hosting company may offer different things).

This is a great time to emphasise that Lemmy should not be treated as “reddit, but here”.

Reddit had serious userbase issues that people here often don’t want to see replicated, so instances took efforts to prevent them. Whichever communities you end up deciding to join, learn about the place and their policies first.

Yeah, seems that a lot of people are just porting over Reddit’s subs, jokes, and behavior. That’s not what i was hoping for when i joined.

I wasn’t looking for a Reddit clone bit it seems it’s found me.

Does Beehaw allow users to create communities? I think only the admins there can, they might take requests though.

I’ve seen Lemmy.world allows user-created communities. They also have a no-trolling rule, but it looks to be geared towards bullying more than shitposting. Other than that I don’t know too many other instances, I’m pretty new to Lemmy myself.
