We’re well past the point of choosing whether or not we participate in most systems, and at the end of the day, somebody needs to do the job of law enforcement.

I agree with the first part, not the second. All those black kids who end up in the military because of poverty are not all evil.

Becoming a cop is a life change, voting is standard, as is consuming bananas and using smartphones.
Deliberately choosing to become a cop is bad, because there are a wealth of alternatives. Not true for voting, bananas, smartphones, or cars.
