I like lemmings but it might be a bit derogatory. Even with that I still think it’s better than ‘redditors’, which always sounded/looked goofy to me.
Any ideas? What do we call Lemmy users?
My current vote is for lemmings. I think it’s cute.
Given the rodent theming, lemmings is appropriate. It’s also slightly self-deprecating, which is a plus when it comes to community monikers.
Most of the people migrating from Reddit wouldn’t have much of a problem with self-depreciation.
Lols
That’s maybe right haha
Huh. and i thought it was named after the guy from motorhead
Lemmy is God!
It’s named after some things: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy#whys-it-called-lemmy
More poetic themes via Wikipedia “Lemmings also appear in Arthur C. Clarke’s 1953 short story “The Possessed”, where their suicidal urges are attributed to the lingering consciousness of an alien group mind, which had inhabited the species in the prehistoric past.”
The past mascot was an alien
Lemmings of course. No need to reinvent the wheel.
Yes, if we’re lemmings surely we should be running on the wheel.
Gotta be Lemmings
Is that what that mouse is supposed to be? I thought it was a tattoo.
Lemmings

with the official client being called Jerboa I think we all agreed that the small rodent analogy was intended from the start
Reverse “Luddite” it. Taking it back.
I agree with everyone here on this, Lemmings is appropriate. Especially since most of the community likes it, I think choosing something that the community vibes with is important.
I mean it’s obvious Lemmings
I don’t think we even have a choice.
How very (apocryphally) Lemming!
Pretty sure those lemmings not having a choice wasn’t apocryphal…
Don’t know why but I actually like “Lemons”
A good runner up for me.
Another great option tbh
lemming would be pretty ok for me too. I am to uncreative to come up with another name lol. maybe lemmys?
+1 for lemming. It just feels really appropriate, and who doesn’t like lemmings? They’re adorable!
yeah, they are kinda cute. i think they are a bit overlooked as far as animals go. So why not? Maybe there could be a Lemmy icon :)
As Lemmings was one of my favourite games growing up, that’s also gets my vote.

Thank you, thank you. I’ll be beetlejuicing here all week. *bows to the audience*
Leminists
@fomo_erotic @Atemu Even through @miv403 decided to downvote your Lemmy comment - I do agree with that version. It sounds so soft 😊
I’ve always been opposed to this kind of branding. Users are users, posts are posts, getting heavy into branding is always a bad sign to me.
I totally get where you’re coming from but I think humanity’s tribal nature makes us want to identify with something on the platform we’re on… Some type of name that defines all of us.
It also makes it more accessible if the language is consistent. I remember when I learned the reddit-specific terms like sub, subreddit, redditor, OP and so on. They seem obvious in hindsight, but some of them were not when I had no idea. Now imagine for each term, there would be multiple synonyms. The feeling of “I have no firm understanding of what they are talking about” would last longer, which isn’t exactly a pleasant experience for newcomers.
I agree to the extent that, if nicknames develop they should organically do so, and not be forced because “the other guys are doing it.”
I saw someone suggest lemons lol
I tried transforming the word Lemmy in the same way as demonyms for countries ending in Y just to see how it’d shake out.
Anything calling to anyone? 😅
Germany -> Germans -> Lemmans
Para/Uruguay -> Para/Uruguayans -> Lemmyans
Muscovy -> Muscovites -> Lemmites
Hungary -> Hungarians -> Lemmians
Norway -> Norwegians -> Lemmegians?
Turkey -> Turks? -> Lemms?
Lemmites is the best one
Lemmites and Lemmegians are best
I like Lemms.
haha that’s a nice idea! Out of those, I’d say “lemmians” and “lemms” are the best.
Lemmons
I think Lemmings is great because it’s not something any PR team would approve of. It feels completely unincorporated.
The suicidal overtone is a huge turnoff for me.
They only commit unlife if you don’t succesfully guide them to the next level.
This is the way
If it makes you feel better, lemmings don’t actually commit suicide like you’re imagining and Disney made it all up. They basically threw lemmings off a cliff to get the footage they wanted.
