Time is the one thing we all suffer through equally.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a whale gamer with 100 ships or a normal person with 1 or 2.

Those 10 minutes pass the same for us all. And it’s that consequence upon death that gives real weight, meaning and purpose to your choices.

It’s what’s meant to keep you from going, “hurr durr guns go brrrr” and shooting everyone you see on sight like a neanderthal.

The only thing I don’t agree with is the current durations given the state of the game.

Often your ship explodes through no fault of your own. They should incrementally increase wait times as the game stabilizes more on my opinion.

But in a game where death is not permanent like real life time is one of the few things that weighs on us all the same.

And yes, ofc owning more ships b/c you’re wealthier than other players does give you an advantage over other players, doesn’t invalidate my point.

If anything that’s making it more realistic, and some day 200 years from now when they implement “Death of a Spaceman” there will be harsher penalties to death that you can’t whale your way out of, forcing you to prize your life and take action accordingly.

It’s not meant to appeal to everyone. Nothing is meant to appeal to everyone.

If you don’t like it, that’s fine, don’t play, no one is forcing you.

If you disagree with the game mechanics, that’s fine, don’t play. No one is forcing you.

If the devs need to do x, y, and z to appease you as an individual or you’re going to quit, that’s fine, don’t play. No one is forcing you.

The DNS resolution, assuming you’re just using your ISP’s DNS authority servers, is still very much known to your ISP.

They can still identify my traffic, where I’m going, what I’m browsing, etc.

With a VPN that you can trust, that emphasizes user privacy, that doesn’t store PII, that doesn’t comply with local law enforcement short of being issued a warrant, all my ISP sees is I keep routing encrypted web traffic to an IP that they can identify is a machine somewhere in the Netherlands.

And besides that they know absolutely fuck all.

Without the VPN they can identify the IPs I make https requests to belong to beehaw, belong to imgur, belong to Netflix, belong to some torrenting site, etc etc.

So fucking ecstatic to have seen that Sync for Lemmy came out today personally.

Plex and a web app I wrote for a Twitch community I moderate.

Plex is on a server in the Netherlands and the web app is just AWS. I would’ve hosted on some spare hardware but my internet is notoriously trash and I didn’t want to risk it going down while people are playing in the app.

Plex I might move onto a NAS at some point but I’m just too lazy lol.

Friend of mine who has had a kid explained this to me for anyone else who’s kidless like myself.

I guess the development rate of kids is sorta all over the place and various facets of development are benchmarked at certain months not years.

So parents speaking to other parents this probably makes total sense and they know developmentally where the kid is based on months.

For us non-parents, well, thank God our phones got calculators eh?

Fwiw my application to BeeHaw I submitted last night was like 4 sentences and approved in < 10 minutes.

The salvage processing deck has a 120 SCU grid and the Cargo Hold has a 180 SCU grid. So 300 is the max capacity.

Idk if I’ll call it quits there or not though. The rooms themselves are huge, I might just start yeeting boxes around until there’s too many to track and my Reclaimer causes servers to 30K on demand cause the physics engine can’t cope lmao

I would absolutely pay all over again for a Fediverse app by ljdawson. Jerboa has been okay, gets the job done, but the Sync UI/UX to me personally is just perfection. I would love to continue using it for my day-to-day scrolling.

I’ve been in my Reclaimer for the past 5 or 6 sessions now doing salvage missions with the goal of filling it up completely, just to see if I can. I started with 36 bottles of Lux, and I’ve gone through about half of them.

Occasionally friends will fly out to me to come hang and do salvage w/ me for a few hours. If my Lux doesn’t last I’m kinda depending on them to fly me in some supplies lol.

So far I’ve got between 180 and 200 crates, and the salvage hold is filled with physicalized guns, missiles, mining heads, etc and making me very nervous every time I have to go in there😅

It’s been a slow process filled with a lot of bed logging out of paranoia. My goal is to avoid getting 30K’d cause I think the physical cargo will transition to the inventory system if 30K protection has to come in to save the day.

So if responsiveness starts to get a bit slow, entities spike, bwIn goes from <1 to >10Mb/s and starts chugging backlogged server info I take no risks and bed log to server hop.

So far it’s been a really fun challenge. I’m sure it’s gonna go sideways somehow at some point and I probably will not be able to cope with the loss 😂

I think one that really stands out for me was the unexpected time travel mechanics of Titan Fall 2 that you leveraged for puzzle solving.
