  • Project Phoenix: Rebirth

According to their page on curseforge:

After 3 year of waiting for a sequel to the beloved Project Ozone 3 a small group of fans of the trilogy have come together to create what we would want to see in a Project Ozone 4.

Until now it has been a fun experience. I think it is made for more experienced modded players as the explanations are often very short and don’t give hints on how to get there, but the order of the quests is good so everything works and sometimes I need to read the manual for a modpack to see how it actually works but that’s ok.

Before this I spent a week in Encrypted_, it’s very different which was fun but I was often very lost in searching for the right steps. At some point you need some resource and I had no clue how to get there except for searching through JEI-recipes for 20 minutes. I found a tip on their discord “use beetroots for iron” and that was great, but it was not something I would have found on my own except maybe with some pure luck. The make of the modpack is new to the scene I think, so I am following him for more modpacks because he invests in a story behind the modpack which is great.

  • Everyone is making jokes but the thought has occurred to me: Yes, we have an organisation in place that is ready to replace him. But, from what I understand, he IS the benevolent dictator, and he has used his power a few times to stop some changes that otherwise would be in the kernel right now. And I think that’s a good thing.

  • Interesting.

As a Dev I understand some of those words but with no experience in Minecraft modding I cannot add much to the discussion.

I am wondering why the mixins framework is not releasing new versions. It’s not abandoned but there are PRs that are from 2021 and no activity? There’s a story there.

(I have also been looking forward to how the differences between Forge and Neoforge will work out).

  • Incoming mail is very doable.

Outgoing mail is hard because no one will your trust your server, the easy way is let someone else send your mail.

People get stressed about your receiving server being down sometimes, but this actually not a big deal. Mail senders typically will try for 48 hours or so to deliver mail, and if it doesn’t get delivered it will be sent back to the sender with a “could not be delivered” message. Very little gets actually lost.

So why do so many people seem to think Linux needs to become bigger on Desktop?

Personally I am not looking forward to the consequences: capitalism will make sure there will be something on Linux to make money off. They will try to conquer it, introduce walled gardens, stores you will have to pay for, by watching ads.

Android was Open Source once until Google decided to mainstream it.
