I browse Reddit only for one sub, a country-specific one that is reasonably niche. Right when the API migration happened, there seemed to be a very visible migration of Facebook/Instagram people migrating over to Reddit. Posts asking where to find Instagram/Facebook functionality came in daily, and the overall quality of both comments and posts degraded a lot, suddenly posts had a ton of comments with one word and a ton of emojis.

So if I understand correctly, the reason it’s outdated is not because we don’t need those pesky banking regulations any more, but that it has been found that banks will just take out their own loans to cover the reserves they need from the central bank, so they can just lend as much as they want, no seatbelts. And the central bank will never run out of loans to give, since they have insane reserves, in their own currency it is technically unlimited.

So money is not really the thing we think it is. If banks overextend themselves and fuck up, the only thing we’ll see instead of failing banks is runaway inflation in the consumer and asset (housing) markets. Wonder where I’ve seen that.

By what measure is China or Russia “the South”? Maybe it’s just them trying to sell that they are so oppressed.

And their alliance is so tight that Putin wasn’t allowed on the latest BRICS summit because ZA thought their ties with the ICC are more important than Putin.

It’s just an “actually, we are the victims” circlejerk, based on some fragile semi-alliances and pretending that China is not absolutely dominating the whole thing.

That said, disarming the country including the police, especially the police, would be more conductive to a peaceful life. So would actual democratic representation.

I don’t know much about the history, but I would guess that adoption was driven by the actual service that was provided, not how good the protocol was. AWS did their own thing instead of adopting WebDAV, who knows why. Then people started using S3 and building stuff on it since it was cheap. Now people build services that are S3 conformant so that the stuff built on S3 can be migrated to it.

The ironic thing is the origin of the word “tankie” relates to the revolutions of Hungarian and Polish communists against Soviet-Russian imperialism that was crushed by Soviet tanks. They were the ones in Western countries who were rooting for the tanks.

Tankies are the enemies of actual communists. They don’t like the word because it reminds them of that, and the fact that communist revolutions were antagonized not just by the imperialistic US, but the imperialistic USSR as well.

It seems it is looking at it from a US perspective for both. For example, it also doesn’t really talk about the Belt and Road and Chinese neocolonialism in Africa, because the domestic problems China has got more airtime in US news. I guess that’s because fucking over Africans is not really a hard hitter since everyone does it.
