Why do the $20 subscription when the API pricing is much cheaper, especially if you are trying different models out. I’m currently playing about with Gemini and that’s free (albeit rate limited).

I wrote a bit of BASIC on my Spectrum but there was a reason they had keyword shortcuts on that keyboard. It wasn’t until I got my Dragon 32 which had I proper keyboard that I really got into coding.

My dad failed his 11+ so was sent to a technical school so he actually learnt how to lay a row of bricks or how to beat out lead flashing. I wouldn’t say that, it’s just there is a lot in vendor kernels and little incentive to upstream stuff for older SoCs that have already shipped. It’s true Google has come around to the importance of not drifting too far from upstream and hopefully we are starting to see the results of that change in attitude.

As I understand it my colleges in the QC landing team @ Linaro spend a lot of time getting stuff into the various upstreams.

For range it doesn’t add much in most cases. But it also depends on how long between journeys you have. If you’re traveling in a van and you are going to be stationary for a few weeks at a time then it can start to make sense, maybe with an extra fold out.

It really depends how you see the firmware boundary. You can either treat it as a set of magic numbers you load onto the hardware so it works or see it as an intrinsically programmable part of your system that you should be able to see the source code for or live without support for the device.

Self hosting takes time and energy and most open source developers join projects because they are interested in the project not becoming admins. On top of that building a CI system is an expensive undertaking when a lot of hosting solutions provide a fair amount of compute for free to qualifying projects.

It is most likely another filesystem mounted where the flatpak can see it. A terminal tool like ncdu or even du will take an -x option to not cross file-system boundaries. That will show the true usage of everything bellow where you call it (even though it is a ramfs so not persisted across reboots).

Don’t delete it. It’s an area of the filesystem where the current user session data is kept. This includes things like sockets to communicate with other session components and lock files. It’s usually hosted on a ram disk so takes up no space in the system and goes away when you shutdown your machine.

Have any actually passed yet? Sure LLMs can generate a lot of plausible text now better than previous generations of bots, but they still tend to give themselves away with their style of answering and random hallucinations.

Certainly when using the newer options things are more consistent easy to follow. However it’s reputation for complexity isn’t underserved because Qemu is very flexible in what it can do.

Most open source developers don’t want to be messing about with non-profit admin tasks. This is why umbrella organisations like the Software Freedom Conservancy exist.

Libvirt/qemu with either virt-manager or cockpit to control them. Alternatively there are various wrapper projects for qemu that hide the complex command line from you.

Generally the ROM if it exists is very minimal and contains just enough to load the next stage of the boot process. Some devices can boot directly from flash and generally you want the ability to update the boot chain because these things are never perfect on release.

I have an binding for my terminal, my Emacs and a general fuzzy selector for apps or SSH hosts. I generally operate with everything full screen with windows sorted across 10 named workspaces across 3 monitors.
