Why not build a megathread with the best and most reliable FOSS apps too help someone who want to join on the bright side of open source?

We (because this is not from me, this is from us) need to share thoughts, ideas and all things you want to say. Dont be shy. Upvote the comments you like and agree; disagree and tell why you disagree. This is will be different from others threads because this need a proper user opinion, and your opinions will be VERY important to build this. In short, your opinions and thoughts will be the fundamental source to build this.

I will read ALL comments to build this. Even if this has a million comments, I’m going to waste time reading it. Whatever it takes.

Your opinions about it are CRUCIAL and FUNDAMENTAL, because your opinions is the main-base to build the megathread.

Please, still consider share your ideas and thoughts about apps on previous threads.

If you want to talk about Contacts, SMS and Dialer apps, is here.

If you want to talk about Calculator, Camera and Calendar apps, is here.

Your opinions are very important and you can continue share your ideas about these apps.

This thread is ONLY to talk about Manager Files, Recorders, Gallerys and video editors. I add video editor because some gallerys don’t have a editor incorporated.

EDIT:

In one of the comments I posted on this thread, Exodus and Libchecker gave me trackers about Material Files app . I download the app from F-Droid or Github, but @[email protected] alert me this app, after all, doesnt have trackers from F-Droid. Dont know why this happened to me, and dont know if it was a bug or something related, taking into account that apps gave me trackers.

I appreciate his comment and I want to say sorry to everyone. If someone can talk more about it and share experiences with Material Files, I appreciate a lot.

MiXplorer but I never really sure about it’s FOSS state. Isn’t listed on F-Droid neither.

    Edit: Fossify Gallery.

FOSS means that the app has its source available somewhere (usually github), and can be used to compile it. Additionally it has to have a compatible license. I doubt MiXeplorer has either.

I think exodus might be mistaking the fdroid version of material files for the google play version. I’ve been using material files for a while and i never had any issues. Besides that: Voice recorder: Simple voice recorder (planning to switch to fossify when it get’s finished) Gallery: Aves Libre (Love the design and sorting by file type features. The only thing i’m missing is a native photo editor)

I not sure this is going to help but I use essentially all the default apps of lineageOS when it comes down to file manager, recorder and gallery.

But I do know that fossify has currently file manager and gallery apps which are very good, the recorder I don’t really know a alternative.

Since I don’t edit videos on the phone I can’t really recommend an app but I am sure there is something in the fdroid repos or even on the github to install via obtainium.

For a file manager (GUI) I rather like PCManFM, particularly on tiling WMs. I’ve been wanting to try out Xplorer but not got around to it, last time I tried the appimage was a bit broken.

Video editors I’ve only used, but rather like, Kdenlive.
